Samoa Renal Dialysis Programme

Cabinet has approved the individual members of the newly formed Task Force that will assist in preparations for the establishment of a Renal Dialysis Programme in Samoa.

The Task Force Chairman is the Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Health. The Task Force members include: the Attorney General; Ministry of Finance CEO; the General Manager of the Electric Power Corporation; the General Manager of the Samoa Water Authority; CEO of the Ministry of Works, Transport and Infrastructure; Assistant CEO Min. of Health, Diagnostics (Vaasilifiti Dr. Faleniu Asaua); ACEO Min. of Health, TTM (Dr. Stanley Dean); Consultant Specialist (Dr. Satupaitea Viali); Renal Dialysis Specialist Trainee (Dr. Belladonna Potoi); and, the Chairman of the National Council of Churches.

Cabinet has also approved the Task Force Terms of Reference, which include a thorough investigation of a suitable location and facilities to house this development; maintain close working relationships with the Renal Dialysis Units in Auckland as well as the National Kidney Foundation of Singapore; acquiring technical assistance from Singapore during vital stages of development; researching and making available the necessary water, electricity and laboratories needed for this type of development; implementing legislation to protect medical staff; and, the formation of a National Kidney Foundation of Samoa which will be in close collaboration with the National Kidney foundation of Singapore.
