My comments here was not to offend anybody, but I felt compelled to respond to this particular post and provide an accurate account of history within the comments herein.

Tui Manu'a Ta'alolomana Fanaese (extended name to your Mamana) was visited by Malietoa Vaiinupo Tavita seeking soverign advise in 1828. This meeting took place out in the ocean, as it was forbidden for Malietoa to step foot on Manu'a, as the legend goes. With that, please forgive me if I have offended anyone.

As to Tui Manu'a Makerita, she reigned during 1890-95, before Tui Manu'a Elisara was given the title. The only other attempt to the title after Elisara was made by Chris Young (brother of Makerita). He was awarded the Tui Manu'a title in 1924 by the general assembly of the faletolu and anoalo. Due to the nature of the title, the United States Navy considered the Tui Manu'a tradition to be a monarchy which is not consistent with the US Constitution. The US Navy then proceeded in removing Chris Young from Manu'a and his entitlement and detaining him in Tutuila against his will. This is another account of how the title ended that has not been explored or understood fully in the history of the Tui Manu'a monarchy.
